Sky Deitch (they/she), founder and curator of The Lounge, submitted the proposal for this project in March of 2022 to the Media, Culture, and the Arts department at Clark University. Upon acceptance and under the mentorship of photographer and professor Stephen DiRado, Sky spent the Summer of 2022 conceptualizing the gallery space and imagining the theoretical framework which would determine the theme of the show.

Upon their reflections of their work experience at large-scale regional art museums, the on-campus Shiltkamp gallery, and alternative arts spaces, they decided to orient the show around the experience of artistic mediums and the accessibility of exhibitions. Thus, The Lounge was born.

The Lounge aims to bridge the gap between maker and viewer, highlighting artists and mediums that work to deconstruct the traditional boundaries in the fields of art, music, photography, furniture, and more. The Lounge features artwork by Worcester-affiliated makers across ages, and showcases artwork of various mediums. There is some work that is able to be touched and felt, some work that can be listened to, and some work that can be manipulated. The show will also feature some work that is for sale, and hold regularly scheduled art and community driven programming. To find out more, check out our Instagram or events page.

Sky is extremely lucky to be assisted by Thu Le and Bel Hammond, and work under the mentorship and love of Stephen DiRado. They also received constructive feedback by the students of the Fall Gallery Culture and Practice Course they mentored alongside Stephen DiRado.
